Thank You For the Compliments; No More Blogging(on Here...for Now)

Long time no blog folks! Sorry but no time and that's why I haven't posted anything on here in a very, very long time.

I got some people saying "thanks" and supposedly they like my blog. But of course in their comments they link to cash advance places and other such sites. Those comments I reject as I know first-hand the tricks cash advance companies pull and the outrageous amount of interest on a cash advance.

Then there were a couple of legitimate comments thanking me for my blog. For that I sincerely THANK YOU! But they were signed "anonymous." So whoever you are thanks again(probably family or friends did that).

As for the person who said my newer posts are better and more creative than my older ones. YES I AGREE! My old blogposts I admit are shit! Unfortunately my creativity has
gone again(due to the graveyard shift I work). I'm more creative when I work during the daytime and can sleep after I finish blogging(sometimes until 3 or 4 in the morning). This job and this shift I have make that impossible so this'll be my last blogpost here. At least 'til I can get a dayshift again. When's that going to be? Haven't got the slightest clue. Could be in 2 years. Could be in 5 years.

Once again to those with sincere compliments thanks for your support! And I hope to get my creativity back(which I will when I get off of the midnight shift...NO JOKE!).

Is it Legal for Canadian Networks to Block American Commercials?

Didn't see the SuperBowl last Sunday. Honestly never was a sport fan or sports-oriented for that matter. Wish I was but too late in life now I guess. As for the much talked about American TV commercials. Would've been nice to see them during the game.

Though not a football fan I would have watched if we could get American commercials here. For those who don't know when an American program is on at the same time on an American and a Canadian channel the Canadian network(they're all guilty of doing this)steals the signal. Blocks the American feed so we are forced to watch the Canadian network's logo and Canadian network's commercial on the American channel. Shouldn't be allowed.

Considering people aren't getting what they're paying for by the networks blocking American ads I'd love to hear from a lawyer. Is there a case against the cable companies when it comes to this? If so, I'll be starting a petition so Canadian networks leave the American channels as is.

Humble & Fred Podcast; Derringer Doesn't Care

Finally had a chance to hear the Humble & Fred podcast. last time the speakers and computers weren't working properly and sounded like they were underwater. This time I heard the whole program. I knew I missed their show but it's funny you never know how much you miss something until it's gone. I still say MIX 99.9 screwed up bigtime by firing them.

Now as for the podcast. things I want to comment on. They talked about how Q107's John Derringer doesn't care who he offends. How true. very true. The day of Steve Irwin's death my alarm goes off. Radio's set to Q107. Derringer(at the time wasn't sure if it's him)and another guy were talking and laughing about the crocdile hunter's death. The way they talked I was sure it was a joke. I had to flip over to 680 News when I discovered Steve irwin in fact did die.

I'm all for fun and games and there is a time and a place where your attitude can(and should be)"I don't care who I offend" but not when somebody just recently died. Give it some time guys before poking fun at such an incident. Derringer in his blog has a Tool of the Day feature. For that(making fun of a guy on a day he died)I nominate John Derringer as The Tool of the Day.

KFC or Mary Brown's?

While discussing with some people our favourite memories as kiids I mentioned the often regular but never enough of Kentucky Fried Chicken(now KFC) outing. Some have said that they prefer Mary Brown's any day over KFC. Haven't tried Mary Brown's yet. Intend to shortly. But in the meantime I'd like to hear from you if you've tried both. Do you prefer chicken from KFC or Mary Brown's?

You're Just Jealous of My Happiness

Whenever I say "I like her" even though the female I like is of legal age some people say "but she's too young for you." NOPE! First of all, if she's legal age she's not too young. Second of all, your real friends will be supportive of you and want to see you happy. Only those wishing you bad luck and not wanting to see a smile on your face will discourage you from true happiness.

Many many years ago I wrote poetry(I don't any longer and doubt I ever will again), but at that time I had a poem in reply to those who say "she's too young."

TOO YOUNG
"She's too young" they say
each and every single day.
Because their life is very crappy
they don't want to see anyone else happy."

-Boris Granic

Bureaucratic Illogic

It may have been a computer problem(not sure) at one newsforum site which shall remain nameless. They ask for examples of bureacratic illogic. I gave my example and they posted it and it has since been deleted. I sure hope not at the request by The Region of Peel. So here it is:

I faxed my application to the Region of Peel to live in a co-op apartment. Where the amount of rent paid depends on how much you earn. I knew it'll be anywhere from a 3 to 7 year wait to get a place.

Literally 3 years after my faxed application I get a letter from The Region of Peel where a woman writes she spoke to her supervisor and he said faxed applications are NOT accepted and I must re-apply which would mean another 3 to 7 year wait and I go to the bottom of the list.

Nowhere on this application did it say "no faxes" and on each page of the application it had the Region of Peel's fax number.

It should not make a difference whether I faxed or mailed or delivered the application in person as long as I answered every question on the form.

Why did it take 3 years to tell me? It shouldn't take that long.

And I am curious why was my post deleted from the newsforum as all I said was everything I say in this post. Hmmm? Interference from Region of Peel? May be far-fetched but it seems like it to me as I can't see any other reason for it to be deleted.

Thanks for the Birthday Gift Telus

In this post titled Birthday I talk about Telus taking away minutes though they said in a text message they sent me yesterday I'd get free unlimited local calls today(I can send and receive)since it's my birthday today. Just got off the phone now with my sister. She called to wish me a Happy Birthday and we talked. For exactly 17:44(17 minutes, 44 seconds). Before she called there was 22 minutes left on my card. After the call I checked and the balance says 21 minutes.
Another minute Telus took on top of the other 3 minutes before.

If Telus isn't going to give free local calls in the first place fine but when they say they will they should honour their word.

Why David Letterman Seemed as If He Didn't Care

The Toronto Star's television critic Jim Bawden in his Hot Box column yesterday wrote about David Letterman's 25th anniversary. It was asked if we agree that the anniversary show was "one droopy show." Due to NBC having the rights to the clips from the first 12 years. Letterman's on CBS now.

Unfortunately I missed it but in the Star column it says it seemed that Letterman himself just didn't care. I'm no Letterman fan and don't find him as funny as Jay Leno(sorry, Dave)but I'll come to Letterman's defense on this one.

If it seemed like Letterman didn't care it could be the fault of the CBS bosses. I recall when they were giving Dave a hard time because Dave was poking fun at his bosses. Obviosuly CBS brass have no sense of humour. And the entire time the CBS bosses kept forgetting that Dave always made fun of himself as well ensuring that everyone gets treated the same and he showed no favourites. With the way the CBS bosses were on his case no wonder he didn't seem to care. Who can blame him?

What a Gas!

Yesterday EDGE 102's Dean Blundell was talking about farts. So many puns I have already but I'll spare you for now. He was saying if a woman farts it's disgusting but if a man farts it's "a badge of honour." I disagree strongly. The occasional fart by man or woman which you can't hold in is understandable. And forgivable. I'm sure hoping Dean Blundell isn't like a boss i worked with many many years ago. He didn't care who was around, man, woman or child. He'd fart. not once or twice but at least 6 to 10 times ina row. Badge of honour my ass!(no pun intended). Disgusting! .......................................................................................................ooohh what smells in here? Somebody. Anybody. Open the window please.

Correctly Pronounced Name

Not long ago Goran Visnjic of ER was a guest on The View. People have a hard time pronouncing his name. But I was impressed with Barbara Walters who not once, but twice, said his name correctly.(if I spell it out phonetically it'll still be difficult for many people to pronounce).

Good for you Barbara. That's professionalism. Many other commentators could learn to correctly say the guest's name. Thanks Barbara!

I Am Nrot a Dunk

On Jay Leno's show Paula Abdul said she was answering to so many different people ina recent interview, having earpieces in both ears. She says she wasn't drunk. Just too many people talking at once. But Paula that doesn't explain why your speech was slurred. Why not just admit you were slurring your speech and were drunk and people will have more respect for you if you're honest.

Okay, If You Say So

Elisha Cuthbert on the show Entertainment Tonight Canada was asked if after her guy Sean Avery (at the time with The Los Angeles Kings, now with the New York Rangers) finishes that night's game, if she comments on it as to what should or should not have happened. She said she doesn't get involved. I don't believe you Elisha.

Not Much of a Tax Refund Here

Just saw a commercial for Softron. My advice: DON'T go to Softron. Last year I went and I all would have received I was told was a $5(yup 5-friggin bucks)refund. H&R Block is no better either. $32.57. Ends up I went to a place a coworker goes to and I got a refund of $340.99. So if I were you I'd get a second opinion from another place if you decide to go to Softron or H&R Block. You're welcome.

Newspaper Boxes an Eyesore Says Mayor

Read in The Mississauga News that the Mayor, Hazel McCallion, said that newspaper boxes are an eyesore. Especially those that aren't filled with papers and stay empty at all times. And too much litter around it or thrown into the empty newspaper box. I agree with that part. However, I've noticed the bigger papers are pretty good at removing their newspaper boxes if they're not going to be delivering there anymore. But there is a Homes box near me with litter in it. Been here for over 6 months. Maybe even more.

She also said that if the Mississauga News, which now publishes only 3-times a week(Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday)was a daily there wouldn't be as much litter. Huh? If it was a daily doesn't that mean there'd be more litter because there are more issues since some people are too lazy to actually throw papers into the recycling bin or garbage.

Oh yeah, she said if people complain and they want a newspaper box removed it will be removed. That's fine. But how many people have to complain? 1? 5? 25? 50? If it's one person leave the newspaper box. If over 20 people complain then think about it and if 50 or more people complain then remove it.

Over-Analyzing Everything

The way you eat eggs reveals the kind of person you are. Do we have to analyze everything?

Why Force Your Kid to Grant Interviews After Abuse?

Don't know all the details. But it's about a boy who was kidnapped for a couple days. He was found and is okay now. Seems he may have been sexually assaulted at the time. There are suspicions. His parents are granting interviews. If the parents want to get the word out and speak about it fine. But to have your kid alongside you? Bad idea. I'm not a parent but can't imagine doing that to my kid. Why would you subject your child to all that media attention? Especially after such an ordeal.

Eyelash Surgery?

Heard that Paris Hilton is going under the knife. An operation. Something to do with tightening her eyelashes. You read correctly. Eyelashes. Of all things I wasn't expecting her to tighten her eyelashes. Something else instead.

Stay in Focus

On Entertainment Tonight's next show. About Jessica Simpson and her new man John Mayer. The question asked "Can she f--k us?" ...ummm...sorry 'bout that folks. It was "can she focus?" Guess I couldn't focus. I got distracted.

Canadians Must Now Have Passport to Enter the U.S.A.

Canadians must now show their passport when entering the U.S. So? What's the big deal? Americans must show their passport when re-entering the U.S. from Mexico. And Canada as well I'm sure.

But Did She Go to School for This Career?

I've asked before on other blogsites and I'll ask again. Why is Sheila Copps a Toronto Sun columnist? Did she take anywhere from 2 to 4 years of a Newspaper Journalism class? If not then I don't care what her background is. Without a newspaper journalism class she shouldn't be a columnist/journalist. It's just not fair to all(past, present and future)students of Newspaper Journalism.

I've Got a Better Idea

A guy in Amsterdam has invented a beer for dogs. Forget that. I'm still waiting for someone to invent a beer. For females. Where after just taking 1 drink she automatically agrees to go to the coffee shop or to see a movie with me. I'm easy. I don't ask for much.

I'm Just a Normal Everyday Person

While I applaud Oprah Winfrey for helping the poor girls in South Africa and opening up a school for them, I heard she has an entourage with her. Many hairstylists and manicurists and so much more. So much for Oprah being a down-to-earth person as she wanted us to believe. How many down-to-earth people do you know have their own fan club/make-up people, etc. when they travel?

Balanced Life Books "a Hoax"

Watching Canoe Live, Tanya Enberg, columnist with 24 Hours was talking about finding a balanced life. Between work, home, relationships. I agree with her when she said "I think it's a big hoax." Referring to books on this topic. Though there are so-called experts writing on this, the real experts are you and me. The people who need that balanced life so badly but can't have it due to to many responsibilities and just the way of the working world today. As per usual the "'experts" who wrote the book(s) on this didn't speak to those of us in the real world. They're too busy writing about stuff they know nothing about.

Jay Leno Quotes

And now here's a very small sample of my many favourite Jay Leno quotes. From his monologue:
"President Bush gave his State of the Union speech earlier tonight. Or as they call that on ABC, Dancing with the Issues."

"Do you know who gave the longest State of the Union address ever? Bill Clinton. Do you know who gave the shortest? George Washington. Just a couple of minutes. Well, sure. When a politician can't tell a lie it limits how much they can say."

"In a series of TV interviews this morning Hillary Clinton said her favorite movie as a little girl was The Wizard of Oz. Her favorite movie in college was Casablanca. And then after she got married her favorite? Kill Bill."

"Beginning today citizens of the United States will be required to show passports when re-entering the country from Mexico. Mexican citizens of course will still be allowed to use the hole in the fence."

"There's now a bill in the California legislature to ban spanking. And ironically you know what the punishment is for first time offenders? A slap on the wrist."

"MSNBC is reporting that no one has yet seen a picture of Britney Spears's new son...the theory is she's waiting to drive up the price when she sells the pictures. Either that or she just forgot where she left the kid."

It's Curtains...(This Time)...for Peter Kormos

NDP MPP Peter Kormos is constantly making noise. Usually I agree with him. But not the most recent incident. Now that Queen's Park is changing the curtains Kormos refuses to let go of his drapes. Peter, Peter, Peter just let it go for once. And I don't mean just let go of the drapes. Sometimes a place(house, apartment, business and yes, even Queen's Park) needs to change the scenery. Seems you're overdoing it. Just let it go this once.

Fat Eddie

Eddie Murphy. In a fat suit. Dressed as a woman. For the movie Norbit. Movie sounds funny already. Knowing Eddie Murphy's hilarious I'm sure the movie will be great once it comes to theatres. And with this premise. Eddie as a fat woman. I'm laughing hysterically already!

1 Plus Zero Equals 5

Yesterday I read on the internet that "a penny earned is 5 cents saved." Oh stupid ol' me. The entire time thinking a penny saved was just 1-cent earned.

Up in Arms Over Beyonce

Some people are upset with Beyonce Knowles. They think it's a big deal that she puts her arms up as in this picture. So? Too bad those people don't focus on other issues.

Are Diet Soft Drinks Good for You?

As I often hear some were questioning if diet soft drinks are better than regular soft drinks. The regular pop we know isn't good for us. I'm still trying to find info on it but heard once that due to the sugar substitutes in diet colas it would be the same as putting tons of salt in there. Which means also not good for you. Anyone out there know if this true?

"Oh, But this is Different"

Seems as if Grey's Anatomy's Isaiah Washington will no longer be part of the show. He's in rehab due to some supposedly anti-gay comments. If the bosses of Grey's Anatomy are going to fire Isaiah and insist he go to rehab, wonder if they'd do the same to anyone, gay or straight who calls Canadians "manga-cake"? or if a white person is called "honky"? Of course not. Don't you just love double standards?

Girls Gone Wild Founder Fined for Footage of Underage Girls

The Girls Gone Wild founder was fined $500,000 and got 2-years probation. He(Joe Francis)admitted to including footage of two-drunken underage girls during Spring Break 2003. I suspected as much. My former landlord got me digital cable(which I got rid of due to it being expensive)but I got suspicious when on one Girls Gone Wild pay-per-view program one girl refused to go topless. At the time this was something to do or in partner with(I'm not exactly sure)with World Wrestling Entertainment(I'm sure WWE had no idea what Mr. Francis was doing). I figured she was told not to, and because she was no doubt underage(though she didn't look like it)once it was found out. But is a $500,000 fine enough I believe he should have been fined lots more and got a jail sentence instead of probation.

The Forgotten Poor

Ontario's Finance Minister Greg Sorbara said in the next budget his focus will be to help the poor. Great! And Mr. Sorbara when you're done that don't forget to help the working poor as well.

Wal-Mart's Not My Grocery Store

Scarborough retailers are concerned about a new Wal-Mart SuperCentre opening up. I wouldn't worry if I was them. Many people I've spoken to feel as I do. They'll stick to buying groceries from retailers such as Sobeys, Loblaws or Dominion. And Wal-Mart for everything else.

Shell Employee Sucks...Lollipop

At the local Shell station was an employee. Either in his late teens or early 20s. Sucking on a lollipop. While serving customers. How unprofessional! Not to mention disgusting. Don't Shell managers teach their employees what not to do as it seems common sense doesn't exist these days?

Radio May Not Be Dead and Neither is My Interest in It

Read a story not long ago on jobs. Among them how radio jobs are not dead. I have mentioned in the past I love to write. What I may not have mentioned is besides writing I've always loved radio.

As a youngster I'd pick up any newspaper or magazine and force my poor sister Helen to listen to me. The entire time I was pretending I was on radio telling her "When I grow up I will be on radio.". Never really pursued it.

When I lived in Calgary a Chris Gallagher of CKXL Radio(CKXL no longer exists)was very helpful giving me lots of advice and tips. As did a Mr. Steve Legault from a smaller station outside Calgary. I even volunteered at a university radio station though I wasn't in university. Then changed my mind. Don't know why.

And many people may not know it but I'm on radio today and have been in the past. This won't be important to you but I'll mention it anyways. Dr. Dan the midnight DJ at CKXL had laryngitis. He had listeners call in and he'd tell them what to say. I was on the air twice. The second time I lied I didn't call already as he wanted every person on air just once. Then I won some contest a few years later during the Norm Edwards morning show and found out later I was on air all day.

Here in Ontario while Humble & Fred were at 102.1 The EDGE I called in defending them to what some other caller said and the comment was edited so it seemed like I was anti-Humble and Fred. Not at all. I'm one of their biggest supporters. The comment was edited to "Humble and Fred get a sense of humour." That was on air for nearly 3 or 4 years on EDGE, MOJO(which is now AM640 Toronto) and occasionally on MIX 99.9.

And now on 92.5 JACK you can hear me. Not my voice. Well, kind of but not exactly. The voice-over guy talks and when you hear the BURP(excuse me!)that's me. Really! Didn't think they'd air the burp but am glad they did.

I even registered and got accepted into Mohawk College's Radio Broadcasting course and chickened out so never went to the first class(or any for that matter). And later took The Learning Annex's So, You Want to Be in Radio? class taught by 97.3 EZ Rock's Darryl Henry and Tanya Buchanan(if you're unsure whether or not to go to college or university for a Radio Broadcasting course I higly recommend you take So, You Want to be in Radio? Very helpful and informative. You learn a lot in this 1-day seminar. Showed me my biggest mistake was not pursuing what I wanted as a kid.

Radio may not be dead as the newspaper article said but now if I just follow through and stick with it for once. Sorry for boring you to death folks.

Why I Hate Lawyers

On the news one lawyer to Robert Pickton(the guy charged with murdering and severing prostitutes' bodies) said the police are good at trying to make you admit guilt even if you're innocent. The police were doing their job. Right? In that case if you're innocent you say you are no matter how much they try to "trick" you(according to this lawyer). If bodies are buried in your yard then don't blame the police. The bodies prove you ARE guilty.

It was also said he witnessed animals being slaughtered on his father's farm and probably enjoyed it. I don't think anyone could enjoy that. As a youngster I recall as a kid the family would go with a friends to a farm and I still see visions of a lamb being slaughtered. It still bothers me to this day. I can't see a kid at a young age not having a heart no matter what. Wouldn't Pickton as a kid have some feeling? Sympathy? Plus it was said he was lonely as a kid and had no friends. Though I had a very small number of friends I too was lonely but instead of becoming violent I was shy as many lonely people become.

It's funny how Pickton's lawyer is concentrating on the police instead of the bodies buried in Pickton's yard.

Black History Month Focuses on Colour

February is Black History Month. I've always believed people should never be ashamed of their heritage and to always embrace whichever culture they're from. But I am curious about something.

Throughout the year we often hear that black people say we should not look at them as black but people. No argument there. Because by looking at them as black instead of as people we are distancing ourselves from each other. But then by it being BLACK History Month shows me that blacks are focusing on being black. What happened to "no one should call us black but call us 'people' instead?" You can't have it both ways folks. And read what actor Morgan Freeman has to say on this topic.

Birthday

Yesterday(February 5) Telus sent me a text message on my Telus cellphone. It said because the next day(February 6th)is my birthday that on Feb. 6 I'll be able to send and receive unlimited local calls for free. Their birthday gift to me. At the time I had 25 minutes left on my Telus Pay and Talk Card.
This morning I made a call. lasted about 5 minutes. Ended up being a recording but it was a LOCAL call. Now I have 22 minutes left. It doesn't matter it was a recording. It was LOCAL. What happened to the free calls all day as Telus claimed I'd get?
As for those wondering "how old are you?" I stopped counting after 20. Believe you me makes a person feel much younger when you don't look at numbers. And working with upbeat (legal-age)young females doesn't hurt either.

Green Party Gets My Vote

A new SES Research poll says that the Green Party would get 10 per cent of Ontario's vote. Though I wasn't polled(never have been)I'm among those who now votes for The Green Party. Just because I agree and love their platform of "if you are forced to quit your job you're able to collect EI(Employment Insurance)while looking for a second job." Time we all gave the Green Party a chance and had more people voting for them. Let's see how they do in power. They couldn't do any worse than all the other parties.

Do You Want to Live to 100? I Certainly Don't.

John Tesh on his show asked "do you want to live to be 100?" My answer: NO! My life is boring enough already. If I live to be 100 just what I want. Many more years of boredom. No thanks I'll pass.

The Rest of Us Could Learn a Lesson from Jeff Healey

Saw on one of the entertainment shows that Jeff Healey was going in for surgery. He said "it's just a bump in the road." He's been blind since the age of 1 due to a form of cancer. He sounded positive. Upbeat. Too bad the rest of us don't have that positive attitude at all times. Especially those of us who have our sight, hearing and all our limbs.

Recycling Changes

An ad in the local paper read "after February 5th we're not going to change the way Ontario recycles. You are." Do I have a choice?

On the Road...Off the Air

CBC-TV's On the Road Again is being cancelled after was it 20 years on air? Never saw it. But reminds me of a Canadian show I liked as a kid. It was Almost Home. About the adventures of a man who hitchhikes across Canada. So which old shows do you remember...and miss?

Angela Dohrmann Deserves a Star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame

So Donald Trump got a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame. Honestly I don't know if he deserves it or not. But I highly recommend someone to get a star.

This lady pictured on the left. That's Angela Dohrmann. I wrote her while she was a VJ at MuchMusic then she went to star in the CBC-TV sitcom Material World. After that was cancelled she went to California and made cameo appearances on The Drew Carey Show, Seinfeld, Star Trek: Voyager, Nash Bridges and many more shows.

We lost touch as people do through the ages. But she replied to every and I do mean EVERY letter I wrote her. Not email. It was regular snail mail via the post office. And for nearly 5 years she did, as I said reply to EVERY letter I wrote. In her own handwriting.
It shows me though she was very busy then, she took the time and trouble to keep in touch with her fans. If someone like that doesn't deserve a star for that reason alone then nobody else does either as far as I'm concerned.

Complimentary Kisses

Saw a rerun of Yes, Dear. A woman on the show said any female will kiss any guy whether she knows him or not if he is truly sincere when he compliments her. Yeah right! If that was true then I'd be kissed every day by female strangers, acquaintances and coworkers I compliment. Any woman will kiss any guy who sincerely compliments her? Only in TV-land.

Best Place to Meet People?

CHUM-FM's morning team Roger, Rick and Marilyn were talking about where the best place is to meet people. My answer at one time would have been the coffee shop. But not anymore. Though I don't smoke and never have I wish people were allowed to smoke in coffee shops again. At that time I'd often run into females who'd drop by and we chatted for quite awhile. Since the no-smoking ban coffee shops aren't as busy and they(females)have gone elsewhere. So where do you think the best place is to meet people? And no grocery store is not the best place.

And Now I'm a Jazz Fan Too

I'm not a jazz fan. Or so I thought. Until I listened online to Hamilton, Ontario's WAVE 94.7. I found the music soothing. If you want something different and haven't tried give it a listen. I think you'll enjoy it.

My Sincerest Condolences Angelina Jolie

My sincerest heartfelt condolences and sympathies to Angelina Jolie and family. Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand recently died of ovarian cancer at the age of 56. My mother Mila died of ovarian cancer December 20, 1995 at the age of 54. Angelina I know what you're going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time.
